Clinton makes her case to Nashville voters

I can't imagine any place I'd rather be than right here in Nashville," she said. After promising not to assault the ears of Music City with a song of her own, Clinton congratulated fellow Democrat Barack Obama on his win and thanked South Carolina voters.

"I'm not asking people to support me because I'm a woman, I'm asking them to support me because I am the best qualified person for the job," Clinton said during her half-hour stump speech, which was followed by the town-hall style forum.

Some of Clinton's biggest applause lines of the night came with her call for an end to the war in Iraq, to tie the minimum wage to Congressional pay raises and her promise to "get those two oil men out of the White House."

Tennessee, a state Clinton's husband carried twice, is one of five Southern states along with Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas and Missouri that will be voting during the Super Tuesday primary on Feb.

Apple tweaks iPhone for business uses

In January Apple CEO Steve Jobs said the company has sold 4 million iPhones since they went on sale June 29.

The iPhone has claimed 28 percent of the U.S. smart phone market since its release here in June, according to Jobs. But many businesses have shied away because they want the device to work better with their corporate e-mail systems.

To woo more business customers, Apple said Thursday it's tweaking the iPhone to support Microsoft Corp.'s Exchange software, which addresses a key weakness in the gadget and puts it in more direct competition with Research in Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry and Palm Inc.'s Treo smart phones.

Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, said the software update will give iPhones the security and integration of e-mail, calendars and contact lists that businesses have been demanding.

Sales jump 60 per cent as gas prices shoot up, gap in prices narrows ...

Hybrid auto sales jumped last year in Canada and analysts say they should soar again in 2008.

Statistics from the automakers show sales of hybrid cars and trucks rose more than 60 per cent to 13,971 last year from 2006.

Analysts said yesterday that although hybrids still represent less than 1 per cent of total auto sales, the numbers will shoot up this year because of increasing model selection and rising fuel prices, which will make them more attractive economically.

"Hybrid sales will continue to increase strongly," said Chris Travell, vice-president at Maritz Automotive Research.

Environmental reasons spurred initial hybrid sales of less than a 1,000 a year in 2004, but fuel economy is becoming a big reason for their increasing popularity as gasoline prices climb above a $1 a litre with no sign of slowing down.

Sophie Butler: travel advice

What's the first thing you want when you recover from a serious illness? For most of us, it's a holiday. That's fine if all you've been suffering from is a nasty dose of flu, but if you've overcome something more serious - a heart attack or cancer, say - your insurance company may well scupper your plans.

Weber contemplates 'playing 'em all'

No players stood out the way Mike Davis and Bill Cole did that night. This was a 15-0 start with a lineup that included Brian Randle, Trent Meacham, Davis, Mike Tisdale and Chester Frazier. Meacham ended up leading the scoring with 12 points on 5 of 8 shooting. Randle was 4-for-4 and had eight points. And Tisdale, Cole and Chris Hicks had seven each.

Weber admitted the redshirt question is still uncertain and he said he may not redshirt anyone at all. My guess is he'll start out keeping a couple players on the bench and if something happens during the first couple weeks (someone plays very poorly or an injury), he'll press them into action.

He'll be talking with players and parents over the next few days and explaining the consequences of playing, then realizing there are not enough minutes to go around.

Gym's New Surveillance Cameras Help Catch Several Crooks

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A local fitness club chain is strengthening security after thieves broke into cars in its parking lots. The problem got so bad at Gold's Gym in the Dr. Phillip's area, the owner installed more than a dozen security cameras.

The cameras have already helped catch at least five crooks.

While people are busy working out inside the gym, thieves were busy working their way into victim's cars. It's no sweat for the bad guys to take what they want in just seconds.

"They usually pull up with their getaway car next to it, smash the window and grab something from a seat and take off down the road," explained Matt Rismiler, Gold's Gym.

Rismiler said it was happening all the time at the chain's Dr. Phillips location.

"But this gym is fighting back.

The 31st Team

CC, D/F 2005 (12th round). Signed by: Lane Decker. The Padres drafted Breit in the 46th round out of high school in 2004 and in the 12th round out of Garden City (Kan.) CC in 2005, before finally signing him as a draft-and-follow for $150,000 prior to the 2006 draft. Breit finished eighth in the short-season Northwest League with a 3.08 ERA in his pro debut, but found the going much more difficult in low Class A last year and lost confidence as poor outings piled up. His monthly ERA never dipped below 6.29 until August, when he spent some time in the bullpen before going 0-1, 2.37 in his final four starts. Breit flashes three good pitches, but his inability to locate them effectively in the strike zone hurts him. He throws a 91-93 mph fastball on a good downward plane, and he has a curveball with the potential to be a plus pitch.

Cancer treatment at RVH to expand; Radiation facility to open with new ...

A new era in cancer treatment is beginning at Royal Victoria Hospital.

The hospital is preparing to open its temporary radiation facility in April, and Dr. Juhu Kamra, a radiation oncologist from the Odette Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, has joined RVH's cancer care team.

The state-of-the-art radiation treatment facility, the first of its kind in Canada, features a linear accelerator, which will eventually be transferred to the RVH Simcoe-Muskoka Regional Cancer Centre. It is schedule to be open in 2011.

"It's going to have a profound effect on the people who are having treatment. It will minimize their travelling time and increase their convenience," she said, adding that if the treatment is closer to home, there is a greater chance patients will take it.
