Mr Ospel resisted calls for his resignation, saying: "I intend to ensure that UBS gets back on the road to success." UBS has been the worst casualty of the credit crunch among Europe's major banks. In a series of announcements, it has been forced to take $18bn (£9.1bn) of charges after its investment bank got burnt trying to compete with Wall Street rivals in racy credit markets that collapsed last summer. The writedowns caused UBS to post a loss for 2007 -- the first since the bank was formed nearly 10 years ago. In a further blow, the bank is also facing a claim for losses by HSH Nordbank, a German lender, on $500m of collateralised debt obligations that HSH alleges UBS "dumped" on it before the market imploded. The world's biggest wealth manager is raising SFr13bn to shore up its capital position and retain the trust of rich, cautious clients in its core private banking business.

DealerTrack to Provide Arkona Dealer Management Systems to Payless Car ...

Hawaii ferry gearing up for Maui return

Groups of expatriates and locals living in Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean Coast had to send two petition letters to the municipality asking for a dicussion of the community's fears before they received a response.

Dobson Patrol District Officer Kenny Warren was named the 2007 Officer of the Year. A top performer at Mesa, Warren made 49 felony arrests and 204 misdemeanor arrests during 2007. .

The capacity war in the hard drive industry is in full force and desktop drives are not the only ones benefiting. Current notebook hard drives are at the 500GB mark with recent launches from Hitachi and Samsung when only about 6 months ago the highest capacity notebook drives weighed in at 250GB. Today, Fujitsu announced its MHZ2 BT line of notebook drives which includes 400GB and 500GB capacities to compete with the capacity of the front-runners in the notebook drive market. The MHZ2 BT line features a SATA 3.0 Gb/sec interface and an 8MB buffer. The rotational speed clocks in at 4200RPM which may prove to be a bit slow compared to the 5400RPM, 500GB drives from Hitachi and Samsung. Despite the rotational speed, the average seek time while writing is 14ms while average read seek times clock in at 12ms which is comparable to the competition.
